There are three levels of MOT/TTC certificates. And to obtain a certificate you must attend and pass an exam for the respective level. Following are the three main MOT/TTC Certificate levels:

Basic: Also known as a Flagger certificate. This is a skill based test, thus there is no minimum instruction time that has to be completed. However, training providers may have different courses and classes that can help you prepare to pass this exam.

Intermediate: There are a minimum of 16-hours of instruction time required before you can take an Intermediate level MOT/TTC exam.

Advanced: There are a minimum of 20-hours of instruction time required before you can take an Advanced level MOT/TTC exam.

If you hold an Intermediate or Advanced MOT/TTC Certificate that has not expired, you can take a refresher course to extend the validity of your certificate for four (4) more years. Basic (or Flagger) level courses do not have refresher lessons, as they are a skill based exam. The required minimum instruction time required for the refresher courses is shown below:

Refresher - Intermediate:  There are a minimum of 8-hours of instruction time required before you can take an Intermediate (Refresher) level MOT/TTC exam.

Refresher - Advanced: There are a minimum of 8-hours of instruction time required before you can take an Advanced (Refresher) level MOT/TTC exam.
